FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Please note, there are some discrepancies between the Student/Parent Handbook and the Frequently Asked Questions on the website. At this time, FAQ information overrides the handbook. This is due to the fluidity of pandemic related information and guidelines.
Will there be screening measures for students, faculty, and personnel?
• All employees, students, and visitors must have a daily initial temperature check upon arrival.
• Students will have their temperature taken before exiting the vehicle
• Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 will be sent home
• Students and employees must be fever free for three days to return
Will Face Coverings be required?

• During class time, adults will wear face coverings when not socially distant. Any child over age two may wear a face covering.
• Students (3rd grade and up) will be required to have a face covering in their possession at all times and be encouraged to wear them in the classroom as appropriate, and especially if they are not able to be socially distant. Students will be required to wear face coverings outside the classroom, but indoors.
• Individuals with severe breathing difficulties should not wear face coverings. Parents must provide a doctor’s note if the child is unable to wear a face covering.
• Please obtain a washable/reusable cloth face covering for your child.
• Face covering should be a solid, dark color (black, navy, or gray).
What Social Distancing measures has VCA taken?
- Students will maintain static groups and physical distance to the maximum extent possible.
- Lunches will be eaten in the classroom or outside or socially distanced in the cafeteria/patio.
- At recess, students will maintain in static groups.
- Middle School students will not rotate classes or use lockers. Teachers will move to them.
What hygiene and sanitation measures has VCA taken?
- Students will wash or sanitize hands upon arrival at school, at least every two hours, before and after eating, before and after using outdoor play equipment, and before exiting school.
- Hand sanitizer may be used in place of handwashing in some instances.
- Sinks have been installed at playground entrances outside to facilitate this.
- Sinks have been added to the Life Center Gym as well.
- VCA will have increased cleaning and disinfecting.
- High-touch surfaces will be cleaned multiple times per day using commercially available cleaning solutions, including EPA-approved disinfectants.
- Students are encouraged to minimize sharing of materials.
- Playground equipment and athletic equipment will be cleaned daily or as necessary, depending on frequency of use.
- Students and staff are encouraged to limit personal items taken to and from school.

What if my child is sick?
• Students and employees who are sick should stay home.
• Upon arriving at school, every student, employee, and visitor will have a daily initial temperature check.
• VCA will establish an area used to isolate anyone showing signs of illness.
• Students may be located to an isolation area if they have a fever of 100.4°F or above or exhibit other signs of illness.
• Parents will be responsible for picking their child up from school if determined to have any signs of illness.
• The isolation area will be cleaned and disinfected after it is occupied.
• Students and staff must be fever free for three days to return to school
Will visitors be allowed on campus?
• School campuses will be restricted for non-essential visitors, volunteers, and other groups.
• Essential visitors will be allowed to access a school campus.
• All visitors must wear a face covering, complete a COVID-19 Risk Assessment Survey, and sanitize their hands upon arrival.
What happens if a student tests positive for COVID-19?
• Given levels of COVID-19 in our communities, we expect that some students and employees will get COVID-19 throughout the school year.
• Students, families, and employees should notify the school or their immediate supervisor if they test positive for COVID-19.
• Students or employees who have COVID-19 should stay home and remain isolated until they have recovered and are determined to no longer be infectious by their doctor.
• VCA will communicate all confirmed cases of COVID-19 to the state department of health and follow their recommendations
• School will ensure continuity of education for students who are quarantined.
• Rolling closures of individual classes and/or school closures may be necessary based on clusters of positive COVID-19 cases.
Other Safety Measures
- School will display COVID-19 informational signs in highly visible locations.
- School will assure ventilation systems operate properly.
- School will ensure all water systems and features are safe to use. Water fountains will be closed. Students will be permitted to bring their own water bottles to school. Water bottle refill stations will be installed.
